Herbal Recipes

Many have asked for various recipes over the years.  I will begin including at least one in every issue of the 2007 newsletter.

If you have an herbal recipe that you would like included in future issues, please e-mail it to ltway@bellsouth.net

I served this tea iced during the lemon balm class last month to rave reviews!

Text Box: From the Kitchen of:    `               The Little Herb House                                          Lisa Treadaway
Herb-of-the-Year Tea

1 teabag or 1 tsp. green tea

1 tsp. dried lemon balm

1 tsp. dried lemon verbena

Sweeten with stevia extract (see recipe below)

Bring to a boil 6-8 oz. of water.  Pour over the loose tea and herbs and steep

for 5 minutes.  Filter leaves and sweeten to taste with stevia extract (see below).

Makes 1 cup hot tea; this is also delicious iced.

This is the most simple, straight-forward recipe for stevia extract that I have run across:

Text Box: From the Kitchen of:                       The Herb Quarterly
                                         Summer 2007
                     Stevia Extract

 1 cup water

¼ cup chopped fresh stevia leaves

Bring the water to a boil, pack stevia leaves into a tea ball or filter, and steep

for 30 minutes.  Cool and store liquid in an airtight container at room temper-

ature.  Use in place of sugar to sweeten tea, coffee, and other beverages.

Makes 1 cup.

That’s all for this issue!  Trying to keep it short in order to get this to all of you before the Open House!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on May 4th,5th or 6th -

Until next time, “Find a way, to enjoy herbs every day.”

Herbally yours,

Lisa

Ecclesiastes 3

A Time for Everything

1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:

2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.

13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God.
