Celebrating
the Summer Solstice
June 21, 2007 at 2:06 pm
June 21 is a very important day for our planet and its relationship with the sun. June 21 is one of two solstices, days when the rays of the sun directly strike one of the two tropical latitude lines. June 21 marks the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere and simultaneously heralds the beginning of winter in the southern hemisphere. In 2007, the solstice occurs and summer begins on June 21, at 2:06 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
This year The Little Herb House will be celebrating the Summer Solstice beginning this week, June 18, and running thru July 14, 2007. Most cultures have celebrated the beginning of summer throughout history. From bonfires, to the gathering of herbs, to weddings and honeymoons, this season has much herbal lore. In keeping with this tradition, every week at The Little Herb House, June 18-July 14, we will have special sales, tea samplings and fresh cut herbs/flowers. Look at the below schedule for our weekly celebrations that you can take advantage of every Tuesday and every 2nd and 4th Saturday:
Weeks of June 18-July 14 50%-Off most all plants! For 4 weeks – 50%-Off Most Plants!!
I have been out perusing other garden centers lately, and I am proud to say say that my herb plants are some of the best looking in the county! Especially this time of year, when so many places just quit tending to the herb section. Not only will you get quality plants, but you will not find more reasonable prices. This is a great time to expand your herb collection/garden with some
not so common herbs, such as burnet, cardoon, comfrey, elecampane, feverfew, germander, hop, leeks, mints such as ginger, candy lime, banana, monarda citriodora (blue bee balm), salvia clevelandii, salvia ‘Mystic Spires Blue’, salvia uligunosa, stevia, and various thymes (lemon & lime-scented, juniper, red-creeping).
Week of June 18-23 Lavender Harvest Celebration
The lavender harvest began last week and will end this week. If you would like to come out this week and cut your own bunch of fresh lavender, you may do so! 120 stems (about 3 ounces) will be $10/bunch. You can use the organically-grown, fresh lavender buds in culinary recipes, or you may decide to hang the bunch upside-down in the kitchen to naturally air-dry.
Tea Sampling: Iced Summerhouse Tea
A black tea base with lavender, jasmine and vanilla.
Dried Lavender Buds on Sale – 50% Off
